Alaris team participated in annual IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology conference, held in Milan, Italy in the period August 24th -29th, 2015. The theme of the Conference remarks the central role of Biomedical Engineering in the improvement and innovation of health care (with direct impact on the quality of life) but also focuses on how to reach and maintain a “wellness” through proper and advanced technologies and protocols.

Biomedical Engineering: a Bridge to improve the Quality of Health Care and the Quality of Life

The authors successfully presented their ideas about Upper Limb Hand Prosthesis, which was modeled in SolidWokrs and entirely built using 3D printer. The presentation received positive comments, as well as suggestions on further improvements. Furthermore, conference was important platform to meet different people in the same field of research from all over the world. Additionally, opportunities of further collaboration were discussed.

Conference took place in MiCo – Milano Congressi located in downtown Milan. It is one of the largest conference facilities in Europe and worldwide, catering for up to 18,000 people in 70 or so fully appointed conference rooms.

Team is now working on fully actuated bionic hand prosthesis, which has five fingers actuated with five motors. Subsequently, it is planned to implement myoelectric control. Read further about the hand prosthesis here.
